Why do you need one?

The American Society for Bariatric Surgery recommends for patients who are seeking bariatric surgery to obtain a psychological evaluation. Your doctor will likely require an evaluation in order to assess in there are any issues that could interfere with the best surgery outcome. Your weight-loss surgery is a life changing decision and your doctor wants to make sure you are prepared. By completing a psychological assessment, I can help you identify your strengths and areas where you might need additional support in order to help you maintain your weight-loss goals.

What does it involve?

The evaluation will last for approximately 3-4 hours. The evaluation will include a face-to-face interview in order to better understand your motivation and expectations of surgery, as well as gain background information important to the evaluation. In addition, you will complete a measure that will help me assess how you will best be helped.

What happens after the evaluation?

Following the evaluation, you will be asked to meet for a feedback session. During the feedback session, I will review the results with you and will discuss specific recommendations based on these results. This session will last approximately one hour. A copy of the evaluation, report, including recommendations, will be sent to your doctor.
